Las centrales el\u00e9ctricas son las diferentes plantas encargadas de la producci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica y se sit\u00faan, generalmente, en las cercan\u00edas de fuentes de energ\u00eda b\u00e1sicas (r\u00edos, yacimientos de carb\u00f3n, etc.). Tambi\u00e9n pueden ubicarse pr\u00f3ximas a las grandes ciudades y zonas industriales, donde el consumo de energ\u00eda es elevado. Los generadores o alternadores son las m\u00e1quinas encargadas de la obtenci\u00f3n de la electricidad. Estas maquinarias son accionadas por motores primarios. El motor primario junto con el generador forman un conjunto denominado grupo.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Los diferentes tipos de centrales el\u00e9ctricas dependen de las distintas materias primas empleadas para obtener la energ\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica. Se diferencian en la energ\u00eda potencial primaria que origina la transformaci\u00f3n.
